Merry Christmas!!

I hope this finds you in good health, happy/content and have had a nice Christmas. If you are one who does not celebrate it, but celebrates another holiday, I hope it was wonderful as well. Here is our tree this year. Of course, after I got it all done, I found another box of things for Christmas... need to get it all together so next year I find it all at the same time.

For those of you who are on FB, we also have a page for Flights of Fancy Digi-Scrap on facebook. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Flights-of-Fancy-Digi-Scrap/135496703171706 That is a place I spend time at, but I get really tired of them making changes constantly. Hubby plays cafeworld..and complains constantly about it. I tell him if you are going to complain, stop playing. LOL!!

Lauri and Shaina are heading to Lansing today, mom is spending the day between church and different friends and Michel and I are just vegging here at home, chatting with friends and munching, watching tv. Nothing special really and nothing elaborate. We enjoy our days of just doing what we want.

I tried to get cards out to most of our friends (via net). I will have to actually break down and do some by hand, but they will be the New Year cards in the french tradition. Too late for Christmas now. Again, a very Merry Christmas to all of you!!

Christmas Eve

Sun is shining. Good start. No snow here... and almost decent temps. :) Off work for a week. Smile gets bigger.

I know I must get back into designing, back into Flights of Fancy Digi-Scrap. Instead I sit and stare at the computer screen when not working.

Christmas is such a wonderful day for family and friends to get together and share special moments. Lauri and Shaina have made it home from North Carolina and will pick mom up and take her with them for the night, and she will spend Christmas with them there. That will be wonderful for her as it will be the first Christmas with my brother gone. It was his favorite holiday. Of course since it seemed like he was always a little boy at heart, it meant presents. But he liked giving as well as receiving.

At least this year I did get the tree up. Michel and I got kindles for each other as our presents. I really love books... real books. I always have one going and a pile waiting to read. But, I don't always have glasses handy. One great feature is that you can make the font larger!! No, I won't give up my 'real' books, but I will use the kindle. Even if I read the book on the kindle, there are some that will be bought to add to my series that is started.

I am also hoping to get all my cards sent out from Jacquie Lawson. I love those cards and I know when the people get them and open them. I do need to get a few out in normal mail, but, those will be Happy New Year cards as with the French tradition, and I have until January 27??th I think... might manage that.

I know, odd post this morning, bit disjointed. A bit like my thinking I guess. But, I did want to wish everyone out there a wonderful Christmas Eve and Christmas day. If you don't do Christmas, may what ever you do celebrate be a wonderful and memorable also!! Happy/Merry all to all of my internet friends!!!!

Update on life in general

Here I am. Looking at the fact that 5 months have gone by without word from me. It feels like part of a life time in some ways. Biggest reason was in October I ended up going back to the US for most of the month. My brother was diagnosed with cancer and passed away. That seems to change how you look at life, at least until it feels like life gets back to normal. Still waiting for that. I will try and get on more often at any rate and get back into the old groove a little bit.

A word about a great Irish band....

I was able to go and see Switchback again last Thursday evening. We missed them last year in Charlevoix, and again when they were here in Alden this year. But, went to the "Barn" and heard them. A totally different repertoire of songs from the first time I had heard the. Had a great time. The crowd was smaller than normal due to Venetian Week in Charlevoix, but those of us there thoroughly enjoyed it. And, being the crowd was a bit smaller I had a chance to speak with Marty as well.

I am adding their blog WayGoodMusic to my blog list. http://waygoodmusic.blogspot.com/ Check it out. They do a large variety of music, all with lots of heart and soul touching. I personally tend to lean toward their Irish songs, some of the folk-like music but they have lots else to listen to. They would love to come to Paris, so we need to work with that and see what we can do.

The latest newsletter is up. Unfortunately it is not in PDF format, but a zip. Our editor may have fried her computer! Those things happen when you change countries. :( Keep your fingers crossed for her!

Summer is upon us. Vacations, weather too nice to be setting in front of your computer, family time... as well as many other reasons why you are out having fun and not scrapping. What a pre-holiday season it has turned out to be!! We got the store 'opened' but just, the grand opening date has not been decided on yet. We will definitely keep you all posted! Please head on over and register... don't forget to sign up for the newsletter!! We are doing one thing I am very very pleased about. Quality Control! Nothing is going into the store for sale without going through the QC team. We want those little annoying problems you can find in kits stopped before they get to the customer. No nasty little surprises, or even little annoying ones are coming into the store and being sold. We did get a Christmas kit in the store and have 2 more in the works. Craft fairs all went by in a blur. I was swamped before they got here and before I knew it they were over. I could tell by how exhausted I was I had done them though. The mess that is created when getting ready for them is still in evidence in the living/dining room in our apt. because I have not been able, or should I say not had the energy when I am home, to clear it away. The table and love-seat are piled high with multicolored pieces of materials, sewing machine, crates with glitter, glue, ribbons and buttons are stacked in the mess as well. Here is a couple shots of one of the fairs, and it is only a couple areas of the table. I can say I make everything you see.

Then there is the unusual weather here in Paris. It has almost not stopped snowing. In the 12 years I have been here, never have I seen it like this. I am so glad I picked up a pair of boots when in Michigan this summer. I am not without them most of the time. Unfortunately my winter coat is packed somewhere down in our storage and I have yet to go and dig for it. So, I go out with 2 lighter coats, 2 scarves, sometimes 2 pair of gloves, hat and boots. My mom is sure I am not dressing warm enough, but I have the evidence. I look like a polar bear in blues. Only good thing is in the spring when I don't do this any longer, I look like I dropped an easy 20 lbs!

Why am I wearing all of this? Simple... this is what I am wading through when we go outside.

This is the "Place des Fetes" where we live (Paris France). There were people all over the place and kids building snowmen. I have never seen so many different shapes and sizes with unusual decorations in one place. I was going to take photos the next day when I went out to walk the dog but some vandal had been busy during the night and they were all destroyed.

I chuckle each time I go out being from Michigan, watching the drivers who are trying to drive with their non-snow tires, tiny cars and lack of experience. Then I watch the crazy ones who actually walk out in front of the cars thinking because they are going slow they will be able to stop, when you can barely stand up it is so slippery.

We are going to have a late Christmas though. I worked up until today and hubby came down ill to start his vacation. He has been in bed for almost 2 days straight but starting to complain more so I think maybe he has passed the worst of it. No sense trying to do nice meals when he feels so crummy. I don't even have the tree up but did clear out the corner a little where I 'may' put a smaller version of what we usually put up. Not sure. It is so much work to put up and take down when you are not feeling good enough to enjoy it.

The daughter and grand daughter have made it home for the holidays (in Michigan) and we will try and hook up with everyone via phone to wish them a very Merry Christmas. That all said, I should get back to work on those kits OR work on getting a small tree up. Which will it be?

although even if the designer doesn't put it in, it is not allowed to be linked into the store without the QC Okay!!

Still do not have a grand opening 'date', but it is basically open. We will continue to keep you updated!

The rain in southern France

I happened to be listening to the news yesterday and they said that for each meter square, 320 liters of rain fell Sunday night. As I think more in US measurements, that is very close to a 3x3 foot square and that is a LOT of water in one night. And, it is raining here in Paris again today and the last I heard the southern part of France was to get more.

On a happy note, my daughter got a full time teaching job in Fayetteville NC in August. We were all thrilled for her as Michigan just has nothing to offer her anywhere near where we were living, including further south. But, it did cut into the time we were able to see her this summer as she left to move down before we returned to Paris. That was sad... but being a mom who wants to see her 'child' do the best they can in life, I am very proud of her to accept a job and pack up and move her and her daughter to a place where she knew absolutely no one. Being totally alone in a strange place... even with one other person with you... for some can be thrilling and for others totally traumatic. Going from the North to the South can be like moving to a foreign country in some aspects. Even the food changes, not to mention the accents/words. She seems to be settling in, so is our grand daughter so we are thrilled!! And she is loving her teaching position (6th grade---Math and Science). Congratulations and we are so proud of you!

I have been back 3 weeks now and did manage to get the candle bag order done for the church. Now to start getting ready for craft shows. Which reminds me. If you have not checked out our other blog, take a moment to do so! You can find it at the left, Turtles Rainbow Gold where I did manage to get it updated about our note cards. As I get other things out and going, I will update it further with our other items. I also need to get a kit or two designed and at least one in the store. Now if I could just figure out a way to clone myself for a few weeks, to get everything I need to do done, and work at the same time, I would be all set!

I finally put in the cards I do as well... and updated the blog yesterday. You can go see it here... or click on the posting in the left column, just slightly down talking about Turtles Rainbow Gold. :)

I create some of the cards, and the rest are made from hubby's watercolor paintings. You have to visit all of the pages to see all of the paintings as I only posted the cards that there were no paintings posted for. We do a few craft fairs each fall and some of the cards are always available. We also have wine bottle gift bags, cloth bags for everyday use, doggie scarves and an assortment of other hand-made gift items! As I begin them this fall I will get photos and get them on the TRG Blog. :)

I do know I over-did yesterday with the unpacking as the ankle is giving me fits today. That will teach me! Ha! I will try and give it some rest by doing some crafting setting down with my leg propped up today. The time is flying by (as normal it seems) and my long list of things I need to get done doesn't seem to be getting any shorter. It actually is getting longer as I do more things. Each item I get done leads me to two or three more that needs done. Makes me think I am looking at my to do list the wrong way!

How was your summer??

After a nice long, restful vacation we are back in Paris. Unfortunately that vacation included my daughter/granddaughter moving to NC and a trip to the ER for me with torn ligaments in my ankle, but other than that, was restful. Actually the first vacation we have taken in years where we did not have a list of "to do" items. Was hard to leave this year and even with almost 5 weeks of doing nothing, we were still not ready to return to the hustle and bustle of Paris life and work. The time flew while we were there. We did manage to see a few old friends and share a/some meals with friends and family. We only got to the lake once, very rare for us to not be there almost daily.

The next step will be to actually unpack all of the suitcases, including the one that got forgotten when we left (LOL!! :) ), do some cleaning and then start getting ready for craft fairs in a couple of months. The time passes so quickly. I also need to get designing again. Seems like forever that I have not done that. My e-mails have piled up to the point that it will take weeks to get through everything and no clue what I have missed. I don't have to worry about finding things to do for a while do I?

We did find out (update on old events) that we blew the head gasket on the 1985 Nissan between the 1 and 2 valves. :( So we now own a 1994 (newer but not new) Honda. It actually turned out cheaper to buy that than get the Nissan fixed, but miss that car. It was always so dependable and great on gas mileage. I have it for sale on Craig's list, someone who can fix cars themselves could end up with a great little car if they replace the head/gasket/bolts.... and it does need an exhaust system also. Part of me wants to spend the money to get it fixed, the other part tells me we have a car that runs and as we only need a running car for 5 weeks a year, that it is senseless to get the old one fixed. If we were there full time (and we will be after he retires), that would be different. The car has been in the family since it was new, first my mom had it and I bought it from her and have had it for at least 18 years...the last 12 with it only being run during the vacation in the summer. Hence, the body is in great shape especially as it was 'run into' by a deer 2 different times, once on each side, so the paint job is in great shape for a Michigan car, with minimal rusting.

It was nice to come back to our own little apartment, but miss the space and clean air of Northern Michigan. The ankle is doing better, I am able to actually walk on it (very carefully) but am limping and by evening it is swelled. Guess that is where the ankle wrapping and braces help. Must get to all of that unpacking and trying to find room for what we did bring back!

Grandma's Home Cooking by Paris Designs
This kit was made with loving thoughts of my great grandmother and grandmother who both taught me a lot about cooking and preserving food of all types. The food was always very well prepared and tasted wonderful. I learned about making pickles, jams, jellies, juices, freezing, canning everything from fruits to meats. It was a fun kit to make and I hope you enjoy using it as much! This kit was made based on a 12" x 12" 300 DPI page.

Hard winter....and almost as hard a spring!

Hello! I can't believe my last post here was not as long ago as I thought! It seems like such a long time ago somehow. Just a note to let you know what has been happening. I suffer from SADD. Seasonal Affective Depressive Disorder. Unfortunately, this winter we did not have much sunshine at all. I was even out every day walking our little dog, and, no help to be found. Just got very wet and cold. :) Winter moved into spring, still overcast, wet, cold... and today, it is still that way. Well, cool, not cold. But raining, overcast...dreary. We will hope that things go uphill from here and I actually start designing and writing again. Keep your fingers crossed! Between some meds to help get me back on course and supposedly we are having better weather, things should look up.

That said, we are still waiting to get our tickets to go to the states this summer but nothing has officially happened yet. The dog has his computer chip and we still have not gotten our tickets. Well. Soon. Hopefully. Off to do some paperwork before actually pulling up Photoshop and maybe working on a kit! Wheeeeee!

It has been a while since I have been posting, but work has kept me busy and I feel like I am starting to come up for air. I put 2 kits in the store (here--Deco-Pages.com) It is called "Cherry Blossom Love" by Paris Designs. Preview? Of course!!

:) Now I can see why I have managed to get caught up in other areas...I am totally behind in the blog (and not just this one!!) I am working on a kit...well several actually... but specifically for the Starving Artist Store train that will be coming out Feb 1. Keep your eyes open for it coming up!
I also actually managed to do 2-3 pages for different kits of ours. Want to see?
The above page was taken this Spring when my daughter and granddaughter were here visiting. We had a ball and walked our legs off!! We were up ON the Eiffel Tower in this photo, and actually had wonderful weather to be able to see all around Paris from there.

This page is when we went to Disneyland Paris. It was our birthday gifts to the two of them by taking them there. We even spent the night. DH and I had a blast as well. It is always nice to become a child again! We had a wonderful time seeing things with more time to do what we wanted.

The kit I used is Candid Camera. At this moment it is still only available to Club Deco members, but will be in the store in a month or so. Back in Paris

Well...that was fast! It feels like we barely left. It was 1 day short of being the coldest summer on record. That said, we hit the lake 3 times where we actually got into the water. Another time for a picnic. The roof got done! It was way over budget but then considering it had 6 layers on it (code is 3) probably dating back to close to when the house was built judging by the color and degree of decay. I did keep a small piece of each shingle for my scrapbook later. Under it was the oddest assortment of boards in sizes and shapes, you could see where there had been a fire near an old chimney (well, where it 'had been but was long since gone') and how the house was built in sections...the original, an add on, another add on. The thing saving the house with all of that incredible weight was the fact they built it using real 2x8's. Otherwise the house would never have withstood all of that weight. You could almost feel the house taking a huge sigh and saying thank you. The roofers found our very large nest of 'bats' which left due to all of the noise and open areas during the 3 weeks of work. We also plugged in a sonar to keep them out until cold weather hits. 3 weeks you think of work on the roof? It rained. And it rained...and rained some more. We lived under huge tarps and did have some rain damage, but nothing that a little paint can't fix later on.
Just about the time the house was completed and we were draining our savings account, the car developed a very large, bad problem and had to be towed away. The engine. Not sure what exactly... rod.... valve.... but they are suggesting a new engine or a different car. So we spent the last 10 days with no transportation. That was the biggest bummer of the summer. We are still debating what we will do with it. 1985 Nissan Sentra with only 145,000 miles. The body is in excellent shape due to the fact I rarely ever drove it in the winter. I think it saw 2 winters only when my mom had the car. Battery is good, tires, etc. So we are debating. As we are still only in the US for 6 weeks a year, I will not buy an expensive car, we want something that gets decent gas mileage, can haul a trailer or items and take another 2-3 people. Not fussy. Just need to find something. IF we decide not to replace the engine, the body I will try to sell to a private person as it is way too good to have it junked out. It was repainted on each side due to 'deer running into me' 2 different times, which also helps keep it in wonderful condition. :) Once I even got the deer for their effort in my freezer!! Sounds bad, but tasted wonderful....especially if you like good venison. Most of them in that area feed on the corn in farmers fields.
We did not get to see many friends this time. Between being super focused on the roof and then no transportation, that part did not work out well. We had a wonderful family reunion on my dad's side. Was nice to catch up with my brother and sister along with all of the cousins and aunts and uncles. Brushed up on my euchre also. It happens every year the last weekend of July. Makes it easy to remember and we try and manage to be there for it. Spent time with my mom and brother, some friends of hers, Roger and Mack but missed Lois and Linda this year. Also got to see my daughter and granddaughter.
We went to a Pow Wow...it was great. I had never seen one before. As drums are my favorite instrument to listen to, it was wonderful for me. Their 'singing' which at one time I thought was all basically the same, I was able to realize each 'song' is totally different but difficult to hear the difference if you don't understand the language. There were several tribes taking part and the outfits were amazing. The young men make their own and before taking part in the celebration of their passage into manhood must have it done. One lady was telling me that the young man doing his dance and showing his outfit or attire (they do not call them costumes, costumes are something worn in plays or at Halloween) he had to kill the animal/bird the outfit was utilizing, prepare the items himself, as well as share the meat from the animal/bird with the community. The outfits can take years to complete. It was very interesting to hear all about it and see the incredible detail. The women also did their own outfits and there were dances with them showing their work and honoring them.
There were tents set up off to the side away from the area you see in the photos to be able to buy things. Things for tourists and souvenirs , food, and a couple of tents just for those needing items. Beads, bones, furs, herbs, it was very interesting to see the huge assortment available that I have never see anywhere else.
If you have never been to a Pow Wow, check on the net for your area during the summer and see if there is one near you that you can go and see. The one we went to was not one of the larger ones but was very interesting and well worth the trip!
Back home and unpacked (but not all put away) and trying to get our bodies back into Paris time. The trip back was uneventful although very hot in the plane. All was great at the apartment when we returned. Friends took care of our plants and getting our mail for us. Hubby returns to work Monday or Tuesday and I will take it a bit easier for the first week, getting our apartment freshened up and start getting ready for fall and craft fairs before Christmas.
We also went into the woods and took a ton of photos for new kits. I must get caught up at Deco and back to designing as well. I see a busy year ahead!

What a wonderful surprise! I was awarded the Awesome Blog Award from "The Best Digital Scrap Links" blog. What a spirit lifter that was! It is in my listing on the left under blogs...go and visit!

We are struggling to get everything done as we head out for 6 weeks to the US on Friday morning. It comes around so quickly every year...but it goes by like a blink of an eye when we are there. I have been working daily, it used to be 3 days a week, sometimes 4, but this week, if I work today, it will be 7 days in a row this week, 5 before that... and it just continues. Gotta pay the bills and eat! So we are both ready for a rest but the trip to get there is approx. 24 hours from door to door. Of course we don't sleep well in the plane.

But we are so excited to be going. Spend time with relatives and friends, go to Lake Michigan and play on the beach and in the water, have big family picnics, and shop at those stores I know I can find some clothes that fit me without having to try everything thing on! Can't forget food... eat some of those american foods I miss all year, taco bell, burger king, beer battered fried cod and of course a 'real american bar hamburg'. I get a fix of 1 time for each item while there except the last and that usually means 3-4 times. Lucky for us we can walk to the bar, we have 1 in our little town, and I get a cheese mushroom burger and a draft...Killians Red. Then walk home. No driving and drinking!! Not luxury food by any means, but a miss all the same.

Also put pizza in that above list. We get them here, but I have yet to get used to very little cheese, not the same pepperoni, hard to get onions and never pineapple... but for me, they put eggs or salmon or tuna on the pizza's. Oh my... not my idea of yummy pizza. I want none of those things on mine.

But!! In defense, when we are there we miss the wonderful supply of cheese, bread and wine we get here with such ease and lower cost. Every country has things that are wonderful and no matter where you go, you get great food, but also miss some of those 'back home' items. I will also miss the huge open air marche's we have here, just outside our apartment actually that come and bring fresh produce, meat, cheese, fish and assorted other items as jewelry, clothing, books, etc 3 days a week. Now I am thinking food and must really get moving for the day! Have a wonderful day everyone!!

The B's Have It! Or do they??

Good morning everyone! Spring, so they say, is here. Ha. Cold, windy, rain..rain..and more rain. I have not seen the sun more than a handful of times here in Paris...or blue sky. We actually added an additional blanket to the bed last night. That is more than we had all winter! Of course it does not help they have turned off the heat in our building. They say it is spring. We don't need it. Happens every year, normally in March, sometimes April, this year they waited until the first of May.
Yesterday it was 10°C here. And cold! Feels even colder today but I am not going to look, just tell myself it is not cold and put on socks and a sweater. But the reason I am going on about this? Of course there is a reason. Our CT, Nelleke put out a bunch of great pages for a kit we had done last spring, The B's Have It by Paris Designs. Thought it was a great time to re-look at it as, they tell us, it is Spring. Perfect kit for spring and summer pages. Filled with flowers, bee's, buttons, bows... here is a preview of the kit. This spring my daughter and grand daughter came to visit here in Paris for 2 1/2 weeks. We had a wonderful time. We went through the catacombs, we spent 2 days at Euro Disney, we went to Normandy and saw the American Cemetery, one of the famous beaches, the point where so many lost their lives trying to overtake the area. Just this month here in France, the end of the war is celebrated, honoring the dead who fought so bravely to give freedom to so many. Knowing that Memorial Day in the US is coming at the end of May I decided to do a kit. For one of the backgrounds I actually used a photo we took of the crosses at the American Cemetery in Normandy.

There are flags, crosses and lots of flowers and clusters to decorate your pages. Let Paris Designs new kit, Memorial Day, help you to create pages to remember those you have loved and lost.

My daughter and grand daughter came and spent 2 1/2 weeks with us...and we were gone almost every minute of every day. So, I am behind. I am behind with kits, on site, on my blog, in my home life, with friends.... Just sooooooo behind!

That said I will try and get some posting done in the coming weeks to get caught up. My CT's have been going to town creating pages, I am now hosting a challenge at Deco-Pages each month, Numbers Challenge with a Twist! You all can go and check it out here...and join us in the fun!

Here is what it is about!
May's Number Challenge is Up with a TWIST!!

May comes and for most of us brings with it flowers, newly hatched insects, green grass and leaves and the joy of knowing spring is here and summer is coming!!

I am taking over this challenge starting with this month and am going to add a different twist to it. Read on....

As I live in France the new twist will be sharing something different each month about where you live, either your country, your culture, your customs, your holidays, something that will help us all learn more about another place other than where we are living. This month will be about flowers and/or insects where you live.

Requirements for this months Challenge:

1 page layout
2 photos (flowers and/or insects typical for your area this time of year)
3 different papers used "somehow" on your page
4 or more lines of journaling telling us about your photos
5 elements, all different, no less no more.

50% or more of your items need to be from Deco-Pages designers. In your description area you need to list the requirements for 3 and 5, giving credit to designers at the same time. Example:

3 papers: red with flowers by...., white with dots by...
yellow one cut/torn for..... is by....
5 elements: button by...; ribbon by... and so on.
For 4, please post your journaling in the description for ease of reading

Link your gallery layout back in this thread, I will respond here, leave love on your page and send you links for the kit I have created for your efforts. This was dh's folder from his camera. He got a new camera and spent the summer vacation in Michigan setting on the back deck with a cold beer and snapping photos of birds, squirrels, anything that moved. Early morning it was hot coffee and camera... We got lucky with this one!

Sick all week but finished the race!! Challenge 13

Wow...hope you don't catch what ever this is. I started feeling yucky around the 9th, 10th...kept going until the 14th and crashed. Have not left the apartment since. 3 calls to the doctor, antibiotics for the absolutely head splitting sinus infection and body jarring bronchitis...new nasal spray, fizzy meds to put in water for fever/aches and the list continues. I have not worked since Friday 13th. I am lucky that the race was pretty well done and yesterday, hot tea in hand I finished the last race, lucky #13.

The top photo of my grandparents was typical of any photo of them together. Happy, smiling, touching and in love. I was blessed to be able to grow up spending most of my young years living with them. I have found that love with my dh, and the center photo is of us taken standing in the cobblestone street in Paris, in front of the "Mairie of the 19th Arron." (City hall for our section of Paris) on a beautiful day in May. The cobblestones are all lilac-ish color because of the trees that line the streets around were all in bloom at that time, with that color flower. You can see them in the background. The bottom photo is my mom holding me when I was just 3-4 months old. She was, is, and always will be a mother who loves her children, grandchild and great grandchild with every breath she takes.

Centaur with journaling: RMD: This one will be hard for me - I don't think of myself as a storyteller. I don't have that "preserve the memories" drive some people have and know very little about my family history so there is not much to say. PIP: I have not thought of myself as a storyteller either. So much of our family history has been lost with the passing of all who remembered it! Unfortunately our family was not big on "journaling" or even noting on the backs of photos.
RMD: My grandfather came to the US in 1904 from the Ukraine, so no records. PIP: Wow, really? Then for you is it a creative outlet? I have been trying not only to have the memories available to me now that I am getting older, but also for my daughter and grand daughter. RMD: I am trying to give my kids some memories, also. The memories are not so much for me that I have, it is for them. I like to tell funny stories or stories about what my kids do. LOL!
PIP: Why not? They are stories that can be handed down to your children's children... if we had those we would have more past to tell!! So you are also a story teller for your children. I tried and did some books to help preserve what little we know and remember my mom's side of the family for my daughter, granddaughter and while I was at it made one for myself, my mom and my brother. I wish I had more "funny stories" about me when I was a child. I ask my mom and she doesn't remember. She says it was too long ago, but she seems to remember more about when she was a child. I need to start taking notes on those stores. RMD: I am taking an "all about me" approach to making books for them; meaning a book about them for them…my kids from my point of view.
PIP: It is your point of view that counts. Do the kids appreciate their books and what you are doing? RMD: Sometimes, but they are still young yet to get it.
PIP: Do you and your mom ever talk about her childhood or yours? Stories from when you were growing up? RMD: Oh, yes, we are close and talk a lot about that. PIP: Do you pass any of that on to your kids? RMD: I share things with them, hopefully to help them learn from my choices, letting them know both the good and the bad ones. PIP: Same with me. Hopefully they will listen, remember, learn from our mistakes and see from our books and our storytelling the love and joy which come from our good choices!

A1: I began doing digital about 4 years ago because I am more comfortable with using a computer than using "real" scrapbooking items. Q2: Why did you become a designer? A2: I don't think there is just one reason I became a designer. Part of it is that I really enjoy designing,so selling my creations is a practical thing to do. Another is that it is both a challenging and rewarding part of my life. I am always trying to improve my designs and when I see layouts made with my kits and comments about my products, it makes me feel good. Q3: What are your favorites in designing...style/color/item? A3: My favorite color is purple. I LOVE it, but I don't use it much in my designing. I love floral, dotted and gingham things the most. I really love making papers over anything else in a kit. A4: What drives me is taking care of my family and trying to grow in some way each day - either stretching myself spiritually or by learning something new or trying something new.Q5: Share something personal you are comfortable sharing, and you pick what it is. The bridge is one I used to cross 6-8 times a year as it connects the upper and lower peninsula of Michigan, 100 miles or so from where I used to live. The 2 center lanes are corregated steel to let the snow and water drop down into the water and the 2 outside lanes have just a railing. During high winds the bridge sways, there is no passing, speed is limited. Small/light cars have literally been picked up by wind speed and taken over the side. It is a trip I hold my breath the entire way across, going and coming. I know with Marcee’s fear of heights she would not be the one driving. I incorporated her fear of heights, her love of purple and floral in the layout. 2 main colors are purple and blue.

How well I remember my great grandmothers on both sides. We have been blessed with many living generations of women in our family. With Gma Lillie there were 5 generations and with Gma Orah there was 5, but never any photos. She lived in California and Gma Lillie lived near us in Michigan. The time passes so quickly! I was thinking as I did this that on this page I have gotten

Shaina has been able to get to know and spend lots of time with her great grandmother, CeCe, my mom, thankfully! With me living in France she doesn’t know me well. Maybe this summer we will get to spend a bit more time together.

Here is a preview of just a few of the elements found in this months club kit at Deco Pages!

Each month there is a different theme, different color scheme and any of the designers at Deco who want to participate, can. Each one who does puts in a full kit into the club...many months the sizes have been much more than a GB!! That is huge and they all color coordinate. At the end of the month the designers can then put their kits in the store for sale...and the that single club kit becomes many separate kits available for purchase. Wow...just slid that one in on Sunday evening... it was harder than I expected! Not doing the page, but deciding on "which" LO to lift!

Jean has just finished more than 1 year of a layout a day...and every day I am always surprised at how she can make even the simple things look great...like the page I lifted, These Old Shoes.

For Challenge #6, my partner, Marcee of Rose Made Designs (team #206 Deco Euro Duo) had to complete that challenge using one of my layouts from before. I was gone for the weekend and she was home so she did it.

This was a very difficult one as Michel’s mom, my MIL, passed away unexpectedly end of April. This has been our first set of real holidays that we normally get together with her for things to have pass by. It surprised me how hard it hit me, but have since realized I had put her in my “family” category here in France. She was my mom here.

Challenge 4 in the race!!

I totally forgot to post my page here. What is wrong with me? This was a hard one for me. Not only did I find it messy, it was supposed to be something we learned from life and wanted to pass on...that really touched us. The first thing I saw when I went looking for photos to scrap was one of Karen, who was my closest, best friend for years...and then she died. The anger that I had because she would not let me say goodbye...she was fighting renal cell carcinoma, or kidney cancer which had spread throughout her body...and wanted to stay positive. There was no closure, no telling her what was in my heart. Al...another one who passed away very quickly. I never had a chance to say goodbye. After he passed away, each time I had to sing in the choir I cry...each time I try to sing, I cry. He was in the choir with me. Hence, I no longer sing much any more. My loss as I love to sing. Apparently I do not do a good job of grieving...I stuff. It just comes back to 'haunt' you when you do that. With each passing of someone you care about, it ALL comes back.

Messy.... another thing I don't like. I think they called it artistic, messy doodles, splatters... etc. I call it messy. I am very orderly. Symmetrical. I like things just so. I like pastels. My likes have changed since I have started digiscrapping. I like bright/bold. I am not quite so symmetrical. But I still have a problem with messy. Ok. Enough said...here is my LO for the race. It is called "Life is Fleeting...."

Lucinda Handwriting: Both of these wonderful people have come into my life and changed it in some way. Life is fleeting. Both of these people have passed away…but their imprint remains in my heart and on my life. People we meet are like a thread in a weaving. We do not know how they will affect the over-all weaving of our life, but they do. Cherish each thread/person that comes into your life, you never know how it will change both how you look at life and you!

Challenge 3 in the ADSR4 Race

Finished!! It was a struggle as I could not find the original photos, anywhere on our CD's, DVD's, hard drive...I am sure I have burned it, but could not find it. Luckily, after going through many, many back up CD's, I found the original PSD for the layout, which included the photos. I will be adding them to our folder of photos, believe me!! The challenge was to take the first layout you uploaded to a gallery and redo it. BUT, you had to leave the original photos and original words/journaling. The first one I did was uploaded back in March 2006 at ScrapGirls. Here is a copy of it....
For me the biggest thing I would have changed are the photos and journaling. They were poor copies of photos, but at that time I was just learning. I was able to fix them up a bit... and as we could not add or delete any words I was stuck there also. No dates, no nothing. Even my old credits were sadly lacking. Here is the redo!!

Our new blue/silver tree is gone...

Yesterday morning I was greeted with this beautiful sunrise...this photo doesn't begin to give the beauty that I saw in in the sky....but I am sharing it with you anyway!!

I was at work in the morning and happened to look out the window, only to see the workers from the Mairie dismantling the tree. How sad. Luckily I did get a photo of it during the day, unfortunately I did not realize it was in the shade at the time. Oh well. Too late now... here is what it looked like during the day. If the sun was shining on it, it would be more silverish and shiney. At night it was a beautiful blue. Scroll down to earlier posts and you will see a night shot of it!!

ADSR4 Race -- Challenge #2 now complete

Marcee and I got our collaborative LO done. I think it turned out really well. Michel and I are not big outdoor people either, so the journaling and all was perfect for us as well. It is much harder working from 2 different countries to do a collab LO, we both work, but at least we are close to the same time zone!

Wow...that first one was the hardest, just getting back into the swing of doing layouts instead of previews. Plus, I have never done this race before and totally forgot there are 2 challenges in 1 week..thinking I had a week to get each done. LOL...next one will be much faster, obviously!

The kit is Everyday Thoughts by Deb Ammerman, and it can be found at Deco-Pages in the store by clicking on the name and designer. I used Atomic Cupcake's Wild Tear action for the photo and my texts were 2PeasCrazyPeas and Lauren Script.
